About this Event

High mountains work like water towers and help provide water resources to over a billion people worldwide. Join Baker Perry to learn how and why National Geographic and Chile installed a weather station on top of a volcano in the Andes.

Dr. Baker Perry is a researcher who studies snow, ice, and the climate. As a professor at Appalachian State University Baker teaches about geography and climate change, he is also an accomplished mountain climber, and he was able to merge his skills of geography and climbing to install weather stations on Mt. Everest in 2019 and to co-lead the National Geographic and Rolex Perpetual Planet expedition to Tupungato Volcano in Chile in 2021.

This event is recommended for middle school students and is also offered at 10:00am Eastern; please register for the event that works best for your class!
