About this Event

Follow Storyteller and Explorer Tara on the journey of a lifetime by tuning into her podcast, Into the Depths and connect with her live here on Explorer Classroom!

It’s estimated that between 500 and 1,000 of the 35,000 ships that transported captive Africans across the Atlantic Ocean for the slave trade, wrecked. Only a handful of those wrecks have been found so far.

Tara has spent the past few years following a group of Black scuba divers, historians, and archaeologists as they search for and help document slave trade shipwrecks around the world. Join to learn how they are scuba diving into history and bringing important memories back to the surface for us.

After her lesson, she’ll answer YOUR questions, which can be submitted live in the chat bar. This event is recommended for middle school groups and will be held at 10am and 2pm ET on Thursday March 10th; please register for the event time that works best for your class! A recording of the event will be available to watch on-demand on our YouTube page if your students cannot attend live.
