About this Event

The ocean covers 70% of our planet and shelters all kinds of animal and plant life. It gives us food, jobs, and more than half the oxygen we breathe. We swim and sail it, travel to be near it, and dive to its depths so we can learn from it.

But we’re taking too many fish out of the ocean, polluting it, and making it warmer and more acidic. And less than 8% of the ocean is protected.

The Pristine Seas team studies unique ocean ecosystems in order to create marine protected areas that prevent overfishing and pollution. Join Explorer and marine data expert Juan Mayorga to learn about these special pristine places in the ocean, to understand why they are threatened, and learn how we can all help protect them.

This event is recommended for elementary school students and includes a presentation followed by a live Q&A.
